Soon after entering the world of the dachshund, I discovered that dachshunds come in more colors and patterns than any other breed. Sadly, I found this often creates a lot of confusion in the dachshund community as to what color and pattern a puppy truly is. Unfortunately, this leads to unscrupulous dachshund breeders purposely labeling pups with inappropriate color/pattern in order to make a pup appear more exotic and/or desirable to the unknowing buyer enabling them to increase their pups price thus ripping off the unknowing consumer, there is no color or pattern that is rare or exotic any more. On the other side of the coin, the uninformed breeder labels pups wrong out of their lack of understanding of color/pattern genetics. I hope that this acquaints dachshund puppy buyers and breeders with information that will aid them in the appropriate identification of their pups color/pattern.
